A dandelion puff barely survives being carried home, let alone kept. This glow in the dark resin bird holds one whole, foraged in the boreal forest and set at the base beneath milky white resin and violet glitter.

About the glow, honestly. It is an afterglow, not a night light. Charge the pigment for ten to fifteen minutes in daylight or under a bright lamp, and this glow in the dark resin bird gives off a soft purple once the room goes dark, then fades back over the following while. The more light it takes in, the brighter it starts and the longer it holds. It will not glow all night, and it was never built to.

Features:

  • An afterglow, not a night light: The pigment stores light and lets it go slowly, so you get a soft purple for a while after dark rather than a steady glow until morning
  • How to charge it: Ten to fifteen minutes in daylight or under a bright lamp before lights out. Sunlight works best because of the UV in it, so an afternoon on a windowsill gives the strongest result
  • The base is what lasts: The LED wood base lights this glow in the dark resin bird from underneath for as long as it is switched on, which is what makes it a night light. The pigment is the quiet part that carries on afterwards
  • A real dandelion puff: Foraged whole in the boreal forest with the seed head intact, then set at the base so the wish stays where it was made
  • Violet by day: Milky white resin shot through with violet glitter, so it earns its shelf in daylight rather than only coming alive in the dark

A nightstand suits this glow in the dark resin bird above all, since that is where the afterglow gets noticed, though it sits just as well on a desk or a shelf. Charging it on a sunny sill is fine, but do not leave it there for weeks, as long exposure dulls the dandelion. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and keep water and cleaners off the resin. It makes a gift for a birthday, a graduation, Mother's Day, Christmas, or anyone starting something new who could use a wish to hold onto.

Each bird is poured by hand, so how much glow pigment it holds and where that pigment settles differs from one to the next. That means the strength and length of the afterglow varies between birds, and the dandelion puff sits a little differently in each one.
